Six rolls leave double shots and 44 isn't pretty. OTOH White can fail to get off the 21-pt about 1/3 of the time. White likely needs to hit to save gammon but a lot of those cases are wins.

Getting a double shot isn't a game winner. White likely needs more than just one double shot (or two single shots). How often does that happen? Probably quite often.

I'm taking and have to decide if Blue should double. The RoT for positions with checkers still to bear in is to (re)double when down to three points higher than the higher anchor. That's not this. Further, White can win gammons, too.
