You're right, it's apples and oranges. But you can't stop the news media (here NBC TV) from hyping the heck out of anything they can to generate viewership and advertising income.

Even in this Olympics there are probably more out-in-the-tail efforts than Phelps's (not that I don't like the guy -- he seems deserving). The 41-year old US woman swimmer (Torres) and the 31-year-old German (ex-Russian?) woman gymnast are pretty amazing (assuming they're not on drugs, which unfortunately we can't assume anymore. Thank you, professional baseball players and professional cyclists.)
