Last night's Olympic 4x100 mens freestyle relay

Although I had the sound turned way down during and after the race (so as not to awake my wife), I didn't hear the four US swimmers rubbing anyone's nose in it. I think what was said by one of the US competitors when asked about the (supposed) French racer's quote was (paraphrased): "we like to stay quiet before the race and make noise celebrating afterward." They certainly did the latter.

I have long felt (for at least 24 years back to the LA Olympics, so way before it was fashionable) that nationalism is way overblown in the Olympics. Actually, so is winning a medal. I wouldn't mind being the fourth best person in the world in some event and not have a prestigious medal to show for it. In reality just setting a PR under such pressure would be an accomplishment, IMO.
