Talking about soccer, do they use a points scheme where a win is worth 3 and a tie is worth 1? Seems strange to me.

Stranger is the NHL where you get 2 points for a win, 1 point for a loss in OT, and 0 points for a loss in regulation. If a loss in OT is better than a loss in regulation how is a win in OT not worse than a win in regulation?
