Guess I'm not the only one who stayed off the internet this weekend.
Looks like a candidate for the Robertie Doubling Rule (RDR).
1) Give us an above average roll, but not our best: 4-3 (making our 5-point).
2) Give opp a below average roll, but not his worst: 2-6 (25/23, 24/18?).
3) Is the resulting position a take? If 'yes' then ND this time, if 'no' then double this time.
NOTE: this rule is (just like Woolsey's DR) for $-play. For $ I think Stick's take in the above scenario is borderline (of course I'm not sure about that) with a slight leaner towards 'pass'. So I think that's enough to double at $-play.
Trailing 12A, 6A I see arguments both ways. He'd certainly like to win his chunks four at a time which argues for taking. He wants to take in contact positions where he can win a G. Here he gets some of those but not as many as we get.
One last observation: his position has a longterm flaw (which could be rectified, of course) and that is his ownership of the 2-point. That may be enough to swing this.
That and my general tendency to miss early game doubles makes me decide: Double.
