BARRED IN FLORIDA

Golly, Ray. You keep getting barred and we'll have to go to Bakersfield to play you. I think it is fair for a director to jockey times a bit, if necessary, to accommodate players still alive in multiple events and flight schedules, etc.; however, I think gross changes without substantial notice is quite unfair. If they say the tourney finals are at 3:00 and somebody makes a flight reservation at 2:30 figuring they won't make the finals anyway then I have no sympathy for them. They can use part of their first or second place winnings for a flight change fee. The accommodation of some shouldn't unduly inconvenience others. I loved the case once where a director told me I had to play a certain match one Saturday evening though I was a round or so ahead of my opponent. So, I sit around a couple of hours, that I could have been sleeping, awaiting the match and then the opponent begs off as being too tired but wants to play at 9 am Sunday. And the director says okay !! So, I get 5 hours sleep rather than the 7 hours I could've had and the opponent is clueless the next morning as to why I'm in a bad mood -- directed specifically at him. And then there was the time Petko and I had to sit around and play the doubles final in Cleveland at 3:30 am Sunday morning !!!
