I agree with everything here except the doubles comment in Part 4. A lot of us go to tourneys having promised to play with a specific doubles partner, who is going to be upset if they have to settle for someone they've never heard of because we had another match to play. In my case, Howard Shirey comes to mind back when we used to play doubles at Pittsburgh.

Here is something I'd be willing to permit, though: if there is a truly massive conflict, such as doubles quarterfinals and the main event semis, both behind schedule: tell the partner of the player in the main event that he or she must play the doubles match alone. The other player can help with a major play cube decision or whatever--but it's on his clock in the other match (main or masters). If there are no clocks in the main or masters, there must then be no consultation over at the doubles match, because it will slow down the main or masters match too much.

Another comment on an unrelated issue: If any match is scheduled for early Sunday morning, the director must be aggressive in awarding penalty points when either party is late. With doubles, the partner who shows up on time must be forced to play alone till the tardy partner arrives, assuming he ever does. If there's anything that tempts me to "Sax a chair", it's having to "hurry up and wait" on Sunday mornings because an opponent overslept and "is on his way" for half an hour or even more!
