Re: the Advanced draw being public: that was my point, that it would create pandemonium with the buybacks during the Championship portion of the auction. But your solution of doing the draw first, and the auction after it's posted, would avoid that problem. The buyers would pay as they do now, and all the buybacks would follow the auction also. I would have no objection to such a change.

One collateral consequence would be that registration would have to close a lot sooner than it does now, with people showing up at the last minute and there being a dozen or so changes to the Calcutta fields. In fact, registration would pretty much have to close the night before the main events. This wouldn't be all bad, since that would also permit Calcutta sheets to be made up and handed out the night before the auction, saving a little more time in the A.M. There might still be a few changes, but they would all be deletions, giving a few more people byes and so upping their value to buyers. The auctioneer could make the announcements about who couldn't make it, and clarify the effect on the values by also announcing who got byes as a result.
