Table numbering is helpful for huge internation events where not everyone knows everyone and where there's sometimes a language barrier. I've seen this done at large US events a couple of times. I recall tables were numbered in Novi, but don't think that was enforced even for first round although I seem to recall once or twice where people may have been assigned to a first round table there ?!?
Anyhow, this also would speed up the start of the T, which is the main idea, and also minimizes endless paging of opponents, noting that not everyone knows everyone evem here in the US.
The point is to try to get the event started quicker. I once saw a reasonable sked for Saturday with the Calcutta starting at 11:00 and first round sked to start at 12:30. What happened was that the auctioneer was much too verbose and the Calcutta ended at 12:45 afterwhich the staff (lacking a couple needed persons) was overstrethced collecting the Calcutta money, which meant that they had only one director to do the draws. Draws were up by about 1:35 and most play didn't start 'til 1:45. A couple of slow players were two of the few who had to play the extra round and combined with the late start this meant that one match ended at 3 AM and the loser had to play at 9 AM Sunday morning in the conso since he was a round behind !! Fortunately the director and staff all realized the issues, and the following year, the staff was larger, the auction was quicker, and pressure was put on slow players to speed it up, noting clocks were used a couple of times.
