I've looked into this but found one huge drawback. If the T.D's method of communication with players is via a mobile phone the players think they can go shopping, for a swim, stay in bed until called etc. And then they expect 30 minutes to get to the bg board.

Then you have the player who's mobile phone ran out of battery or their network doesn't cover the venue.

Nada. Texting is the wrong way to go. Players in-situ please.
