Where These Ideas Might Lead

Following through on the ideas found in this thread and the other one, here is one way it could work:

As long as the drawsheet software was available well in advance of any tournament in which it would be used, preferably as a free Windoze download, and could reproduce the posted draw given the same data, I think most people would be satisfied that all was well. The most paranoid person in the room could actually run the names and numbers through on his laptop, and be assured that the program does it right.

That avoids the problem of people being handed source code that they can't understand, and being told this proves the process is legitimate. The source code could be provided in addition, for the geeks among us.

The seed, random numbers, or whatever else is needed can be selected by a function of some publicly available numeric data, such as the DJIA close for the week. Since that allows someone to run the program the night before, if they have all the names, then using it would require that the draw be done (and preferably posted) before the Calcutta, as Neil and others want anyway. The time saved would be quite substantial, and I think we'd all get used to this new order of events pretty quickly.

Anybody see any security holes in this plan?
