My set is middling-nice (Mike Keener, 1992, but I think it was a rush job), but I would never consider checking it. It's too fragile.

Yes, I prefer Southwest too. I once saw one of their baggage handlers handling baggage in what could be interpreted as a rough way, but he was actually tossing the bags to precise spots where they'd land in precise orientations. Some of them looked heavy. I was impressed, but I'd have been really worried if I'd had anything fragile in my own bag.
