Agreed that clocking the 1 pt matches in the RR the 3 of us played for the bye into the money (won by Tim who beat us both) was a bit extreme, but we needed to finish quickly as it was latish. What we didn't want was to have a 20 or 30 minute game. However, with only 2 minutes reserve time, there's not much chance to think and a better TC for a 1 pt match would have been 3min + 15sec. I'd suggest that the next time that timed 1 pt matches are played.

We decided and all three players agreed to determine the bye by playing BG for it, rather than by random drawing.

Unfortunately, it wasn't til bedtime that I realized that all we had to do was not to stick to the new method of determining playoffs and continue the Swiss with just the 4 of us (Steve at 9-0 and me, you, Tim at 7-2) playing 1 extra round.

Note that Steve by virtue of having two fewer losses is entitled to two byes in the bracket of 8 playoffs...ie he goes to the finals. Had there been 4 7-2's all would be perfect and those 4 would play the quarters and semis to decide who'd play the finals vs Steve. The issue was 3 7-2's and the huge undesirability of giving someone a bye into the money.

Anyhow..with the 10th round added, lets say Steve wins and is 10-0 and there's only one 8-2 remaining. To compensate Steve for two byes, the 8-2 would have to beat him twice. (The two losers in rd 10 would share 3/4 places)

Lets say Steve lost in rd 10 and is now 9-1, there will be two 8-2's and they will play the semis to see who plays Steve who now gets 1 bye into the finals. Now with Steve getting that 1 bye, there's only a single finals match. The lone player knocked out in rd 10, would drop down to the conso, just like I did after you beat me in what was effectively rd 10.
