I agree. Take one step at a time.

The absolute worst thing for clock acceptance would be if a major tournament made clocks mandatory and then ten percent of the matches ended up being decided on time.

Let people get used to the mechanics of clocks first. Tighten up the time controls later, if that's what people want.

Besides, the mere usage of clocks will speed up play. I suggest 20 sec per move.
