IMHO BG is not meant to be played at chess-like speed. 2.5 + 15 is lots of time, too much for ABT events,IMHO, as so many rounds need to be played and there's side events.
I don't think BG should be played at chess-like speeds either, but I definitely don't think it should be played at frantic blitz-like, fast-rolling speeds. You're a pretty fast player, and Richard plays at an average pace. I tend to take my time, especially in tourneys--it's not just some chou. TCs shouldn't prohibit people from playing relatively slowly, they should prohibit people from playing TOO slowly and holding up the tournament. Chess-like speeds are still too slow, but 2/12 seems too fast to me, although, again, I'd need to play more clocked BG to get a real feel for the TCs.
I don't care what TC is used on the side events; it can be 1.5/12 for all I care, but I think people consistently flagging in the main would be a bad thing. The TCs can always be sped up later if they're too slow, whereas it'd difficult to slow them down if they're too fast.
