Clock Play Rules breaks

What is the pro forma in US clock play regarding breaks during matches?

Current US Non-Clock play rules state:

2.2 Time Matches shall start promptly at the appointed time. Two 5-minute recesses only are allowed per 7-point match. Players must use their breaks at the same time. The only reference made to Break Rules in the US Backgammon Clock Rules and Procedures - October 2007 is in:

5.2 STOPPING THE CLOCK. A player stops both clocks to take an authorized break between games in the match.

So breaks ARE allowed in Clock Play Tournaments though only 7 point matches are covered by the rules.

Why are 3, 5, 9, 11, 13 and 15 etc. match lengths allowed breaks not covered by the rules?

What do you consider they should be?

Is there a need for breaks in matches less than 7 points?

How does a T.D. enforce break time rules? Is there a need for a second clock per board to tick away during the 5 minute allowed break or has anybody found a function that can time the 5 allowed minutes on the clock in use without losing the current setting (in particular on Excalibur Game-Time clocks?)

After the 5 allotted minutes it’s easy enough for the T.D. to donk the clock of a missing player but what if both players are missing? They might not care if they both want a longer break but other players in the tournament are entitled to care and as such it should be regulated. So do we need 3 clocks per board?

In my limited experience of Clock Play it’s those who smoke that are the biggest offenders of break rules abuse. I hasten to add that I’m not attempting to have a go at smokers – I smoke myself but realise that there is little point in introducing Clock Play Rules if all the hard work in introducing them is going to be scuppered by a few.

Thanx in advance,
