Technically you have no double, and Steve is clearly not someone that you can push around. Strangely he is a very quiet guy and looks and acts very meek and mild, however he is one of the toughest hombre's. He is a better man than me, he will NEVER whine, or pass a take.
As a general rule WAIT when your double has no chance of ripping off your opponent, as is the case here. The score and skill factors of the players point slightly more towards redoubling. You won't lose much by redoubling, mathematically, Bill. You'll be down 7-2/9 if you lose against one of the few people who is not going to fold up like a cheap pocket knife protecting his lead. You did what you wanted to do, right? You could have taken losing this match fast... Your redouble was not so bad, I think.
Checker play aside, Neil, Steve Brown is already world class, imho. He just won't ever get a GIANT vote because of his quiet personality. With Stick's personality and his game, look out!
