I think you should just draw for the bye. Sorry. Playing backgammon for the bye favors Neil, plain and simple. He is the best player!

There is a seat belt law, that protects people from themselves. If they don't wear one, they meet me... But they don't remember it because I am removing them from their windshield. Some of them make it all the way out of the car, but then encounter a tree which does not MOVE.

Protect people from themselves is what laws do, sorta. Protecting bg players from themselves is what directors oughta do. The best player in the ABT all time had a conflict of interest suggesting a match playing solution.

Two guys fortunate enough to win the same number of matches as the ABT leader, and all time point champion must now play MORE to get a bye?

The should have refused and demaded a fair and objective RANDOM procedure to determine the bye, protecting them from being taken advantage of.

I must admire the magic it takes to get others to agree to this idea though. I would not have suggested such a thing, since I have been taken advantage of in the same fashion years ago by Senk, Ballard and KG.

side note: I won the tournament anyway, so I had the last laugh!
