Bill Riles: I think many players are generally in favor of the clock but a number recognize, based on their own play and who their opponent is, that a clock is unnnecessary and will never come into play. So, it becomes irrelevant.

Hang on there... it may become irrelevant with respect to time, but you are conveniently neglecting one of the more important aspects of clocked play. The MECHANICS of the game are vastly improved.
