I guess I'm not seeing the monstrous gains after being hit back. You mean that I should try to force him to crush everything to the ace point, even at risk of burying a checker and misplacing my spares? He may still have to crunch more if I don't hit, or he may be able to avoid crunching even after I hit him. And with the 1 and 2 points made he's already crunched enough...or so I figured.

I agree with hitting loose on the 23 point in most situations, but I didn't see the big upside of the loose hit on the ace here.
