What do I have to gain?

What do you have to lose? White's offense is weak enough that achieving a beautiful bearin structure is much less important than it might be.

I can get more timing if he hits me back, but he's already fairly crunched.

Fairly crunched, yes; now, try to get him unfairly crunched.

White has burned only two checkers; that's a good start, but to burn a third one would be Big, and a fourth (and fifth!) Better Still.

As a bonus, if he enters on the three point, you get some trapping opportunities vs. the 23 point. And if he dances a couple of times, there's nothing wrong with clearing an outfield point or two while he's on the roof.
