Clocks

In Response To: Clocks (Matt Cohn-Geier)

A good way to start, and noting that there may not be enough clocks around is to make the side Jackpots clock insistable. That means if I play in the Masters and there's a clock available, we are going to use it PERIOD. Rest assured that I'll bring a clock. Doubles should be clock manditory ! But once again, there may not be enough clocks so make it clock insistable.

Both of these will get more players used to clocks. As players become used to clocks, acceptence will occur, directors may buy more clocks and players will bring their own.

I must note that 2/12 was tested by some pretty good players, smart people. (I wasn't one of them).

I do prefer 2/15 for the main reason that one can cock dice once or even twice and make his move without really fast hand and arm motions. 2/15 is less scary to clock newcomers than 2/12 and will serve to get minimize the chances of a 3+ hour 11 or even 9 pt match that I've seen make a whole room a players miserable as the brackets then severely lag.

I'd like to chance the cocked dice rule so that dice anywhere on the playing surface count and that dice flat on top of checkers count. However, we are all used to playing cocked dice the way they are called now and certainly extreme problems will occur when someone grabs a dice atop a checker. Thus the cocked dice rule really should stay as it is.

It isn't practical to rest delay time everytime dice are cocked as it simply will mean too much fumbling with the clock and also slow down play. But when dice hit the floor, then the clock is stopped to look for/retrieve them. Note that cocked dice occur very much and dice hit the floor rarely, even if you roll as hard as I do.
