The problem is that at round n − 1 you may have players with two losses and no chance to win the tournament. It's usually not good to have players still playing with no chance to win.
This seems a little too restrictive as stated. As long as a player has some incentive to win his/her match (e.g. more prize money, a higher placing, more ABT points) then it seems worthwhile. I agree that if a player has nothing at all to gain/lose by playing a match then the results could be tainted.
