True enough

I'm sure that the advocates on clocks in this forum constitute a vocal minority...most players would probably prefer not to use a clock if given their druthers. Clocks are not a panacea...but I strongly agree with what Jason Lee said recently- clocks make the event more 'professional'- no tailgating , no fast rolling, no shaking during my move, no sighing in disgust (who cares if you're thinking on your own time), one set of dice so less cause for suspicion of loaded dice, etc., etc.
I think the way to gradually introduce clocks is to begin having events where EITHER player can have a clock used, but the player is responsible for providing his own tournament-sanctioned clock.
Let the marketplace decide...let TDs decide this on their own and they can best make an assessment on the impact this has on event attendance. As Gregg C. said, he made clocks available at his Atlanta ABT event and clocks were seldom used. I'm sure clock acceptance will gradually increase over time. I plan to put my money (well not really since I payout 100% of fees) where my keyboard is in 2009 by allowing either player to insist on a clock at my local club in Tysons Corner, VA. Might I lose a player or two? Maybe. Might I gain some players if they don't dread as much the possibility of long tourneys that drag on too late? Maybe. If someone really hates clocks and won't use it, well there are two other clubs in the Baltimore-Washington area.
