Are you sure about that? I see single elimination a lot.

"The recent Modified Swiss event in Wisconsin was, in effect, a TRIPLE elimination event."

There is a big difference though. In the elimination events it matters when you lose. For example in a Swiss two players at 5-1 are in the same position. In an elimination system the player who had lost later is probably more advanced in the one loss bracket drawsheet. Not saying either is better.
