ABT points

The player who makes two finals is better, most likely. Or at least his task was more difficult.

This is the exact reason I was a vociferous advocate of revising the ABT point system about 5 years ago.

In 2002 or something I happened to take second in Pittsburgh and the Midwest in Chicago. Both winners had 2 more points than I did in the ABT race! Frank Talbot won Michigan and eventually the ABT Championship by less than one point that year.

The rules have since been changed so that the second place finisher gets exactly half the ABT points the winner gets, but I don't believe it goes far enough.

Winning in Wisconsin was worth 18.8 for Tim Mabee, his record was 10-2. Steve Brown was 9-1, and he got 9.4 points. 1 extra win is worth twice as many points???

9 points separates 1st and 2nd place in the ABT at the moment. It is about that many points between 2nd and 3rd too. So much swings on winning the event as opposed to taking 2nd place! I lost to Jon Vietor in Pittsburgh, the luck rate was +42 for Jon. Was that worth 9 points, the difference between winner and finalist?
