Cardwell's DE format for 32 players

This is a good way to run DE for 32 players, IMHO and results in less waiting around from my experience. All matches 9 pt so the event can be finish in a two day weekend ! Those who lost twice go to conso as usual.
After 5 rounds 6 players remain. One is 5-0 and five are 4-1. In rd 6, the 5-0 guy plays one of the 4-1's. While the other four 4-1's play amoungst each other. If the 5-0 wins he's 6-0 and only two 5-1's remain. They play each other to determine the finalist and 3rd place. In the finals the 6-1 has to beat the 6-0 twice to win. This is better more fair than the typical DE format which with 32 players would have the 5-0 in the finals typically playing a 7-1 (I think or is it a 6-1 ?)and also typically waiting a long time for the finals match.
If the 5-0 guys loses in rd 6, there's 4 equal players at 5-1 and 4 places are paid rather than 3.
This format is 8 rds in the main 75% of the time and 9 rounds 25%. You can get 9 rounds of 9 pt matches done in two days, 5 matches Sat, 4 if needed Sun, and Cardwell was clocking everything I think I recall. But clocks would only have to be used for slow matches, delayed brackets, slow players and the money rounds, off course.
This format doesn't work for 64 players as far I as could figure.
