Clocks

If after extensive deployment of clocks in ABT events the time constraints are found to be too confining, then by agreement of the ABT community at large, they could be changed. Give it a good try first, though, otherwise the work developing the limits will have been done in vain. People will get over their initial fear/discomfort.
I think some of my suggestions have developed a life of their own beyond what I originally intended. Let me be clear here:
I am really not opposed to a TC of 2/12 or 1.5/15 or whatever people decide on is fair. I would love to give it a good try. The only problem with doing so is that there are no clocks to play with because, well, backgammon in the US isn't clocked. It makes giving it a good try a rather difficult thing to do. If I were to go to Denmark and play in a tournament I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to tell them to change any of their rules.
Most of the posters on this board have indicated that they favor clocks, so my suggestions were made to make clocks more appealing to average players, and try to bridge the gap between the majority of players, who don't want clocks, and the vocal minority of posters/top/serious players, who do want clocks.
I am opposed to the cocked dice rule, mostly for the reasons that Chuck gave. If people don't like resetting the delay, then maybe if dice are cocked once the clock can be paused until they come to a rest. That seems fair to me and doesn't involve "fumbling" with the clock.
Personally, I think Chuck's suggestion of having more clocks allowed events (and then enforcing it often) would probably be the best out of any of them.
