In Response To: OT: Bower line on LHC disaster? (Matt Reklaitis)

I believe the point of the article is (or should be) that scientists need to be careful tossing around numbers like "one in 50 million". Interesting that this is what the article says is the probability of the earth being hit by a (major) asteroid. Could 1/50,000,000 have been an upper limit for just this reason?

I find it hard to believe that anything close to this number (of trailing zeroes) is the right answer.

I have a meeting to attend but I will later give my estimate (or "Bower line") later this afternoon.
