I usually make use of reference positions, primes, and symmetry around a point. A few pointers
1) Know the multiples of 13 without having to think. Realize that the midpoint is 13 as well as a checker on the 6 along with one on on the 7.
2) Know where your 10 point is. For checkers in that quadrant I often just multiply by 10 and then adjust.
3) Know where your 20 point is. For checkers in that quadrant I often just multiply by 20 and adjust.
4) 2 checkers on mid plus two on bar anchor = 62 and 2 checkers on mid plus two on golden anchor = 66
5) Have a system so that you can do a count and then hold it on your hands so remembering it won't interfere with opponent's count.
6) Be consistent in the order and if you include the results of the current roll or not. I always do my count first and include the roll. Note that doing yours first means you can get started on opponent's turn more easily.
7) 2 checkers that mirror each other across the board add to 25. 25 is easy to multiply by.
8) 4 + 6 = 10. 10 is easy to multiply by.
9) 5 + 6 = 11. 11 is easy to multiply by.
