Preparing for the coming age of clocked BG

I agree with Neil on this one. I have learned to count only the difference in pips between the two sides, and to do that pretty quickly, by transposition.
in general:
If it is 5 pips, it won't be a double and will be a take.
10? Might need to count the leaders pips to determine.
20? What race is that not MORE than 10% of???
It's a matter of relativity! I watch people count one side, and then the other, and I am moved to give them the pip count to get the match moving. Of course, I won't be doing that if a clock is on the match. Personally I have never been ABLE to count say 114 pips for one side, then count mine... and then REMEMBER the 114... and do a subtraction problem that yields a percentage. Get outta here! Count the difference, and if you need to do more then compare it to the leader's pipcount only. Never count the trailer's pips.
A clock would also necessitate maintaining a careful running count to avoid redoing your pip count over and over, naturally.
