I often used a few other tricks also:

1. Stripped bar and 8 points equal 30 pips: 15,30,45, etc.

2. 3 on mid is 39, while two on the 20 point are 40, (as in holding games).

3. He has 4 men back and each is worth at least 20, so that is eighty sumthin.

4. Six checkers surrounding the 9 point somehow: 54 + change.

5. 4 on the mid vs. 3 on mid and on on 11 point... I am UP or + 2.
