My mind goes as follows..midpts cancel...8pts cancel...Blue 30,38,80 White 12,20,30,75...Blue is down 5 pips. If I don't think this is a reasonable number, I can cross check as follows...
.. looking at home boards Blue has 18 extra pips for his 3 extra checkers on the 6 pt, (rest of respective checkers in respective hb's cancel) while White's back checkers give him 3 extra pips in comparison to Blue's so now we have Blue with 15 extra pips..and looking at White's extra on his 10 pt..Blue has 5 extra pips...ie Blue trails by 5 pips. My mind in the quick cross check would go 18,15,5.
Normally I wouldn't cross check a position once I saw that I trialed by 5 pips, unless I felt I'd erred in that conclusion.
Anyhow..this is a very easy position..I'd could do the initial method while shaking my dice a couple times extra in a position this symetrical.
Total absolute pip count..who cares..it so VERY RARELY matters.
