I use this one. Just count checkers.I will do this first for Blue: 1)count all checkers in upper two quadrant and multiplied by two (5*2=10) 2)Add checkers in big diagonal (checker in 24-19 abd 12-7) and multiply all with two (10+5=15*2=30) 3)Add checkers in small diagonals (24-22 and 6-4 and 18-16 and 12-10) and multiply with three. (30+7=37*3=111) 4)Add 30 (which come from 15 checkers on the board multiplied by two. If there are 14 checkers for example on the board you have to add 2*14=28) (111+30=141) 5)Make adjustments (hard for me to explain but it gives two more pips for total 143. And now I use Gregg method (which can be find on BG Galore! forums archive) to use my fingers to 'write' pips count.
Same for white: 1)5*2=10 2)10+6=16*2=32 3) 32+5=37*3=111 4) 111+30=141 5) 141-3=138
And now 143-138=5 white is five pips ahead.
