5) With comparisons in mind, learn to just add or subtract multiple of 13 for checkers on the mid points. (if for some reason you need the total count, go back and add y x 13 for y checkers on mid for guy with fewest there)

The one really great thing I got out of Kissane's article is that 2 checkers on the mid plus another checker on the 14 makes 40. I already knew multiples of 13 and that 3 on the mid were 39, but for some reason it never occurred to me that I could shift back a pip and get 40. I like to use numbers divisible by 10 whenever possible, so that one was pretty key.
