Good points, Mislav. Hmm...maybe I'll change my settings to -.02 for doubtful, but no lower than that since I am interested in having GNU flag clear errors, at least on my first look at the match.

Matt's rollouts are enough for me to believe that 3 pl checker play is superior to 2 ply. Is it worth the extra time ? I don't know, perhaps not.

I don't know when 3 ply is superior to 2 ply but I suspect in tactical positions..ie I hit you, you hit back, I roll from the bar etc the deeper look ahead would be superior.

I also suspect that since it is certain that the odd ply effect helps GNU 3 ply result in a more accurate eval of typical holding game cubes, that 3 ply checker play might handle a pay now or later decision better than 2 ply since 3 ply would likely be a better absolute judge of the equity from playing safe, but can't be sure.

As for 3 ply cube vs 2 ply cube in backgames ? I don't know and for any serious study I'd roll out the backgame 2 ply.
