Hi Chuck,

If you roll out only selected positions I think the bias can sometimes be huge. It depends a lot on the type of position - difference in equity and how many other plays are close in the move.

When I get Snowied matches from tournament players, one of the first things I check for is rollouts. I often find that a match will be done mostly with 3-ply but certain position have mini-rollouts that may or may not affect the overall rating of the player. Whether these were done out of curiosity and accidentally saved by the player when sending me the match, I do not ask, but if I publish it, I re-analyzed it entirely at 3-ply precise before it goes online.

I have seen many positions in which Snowie 3-ply is not accurate in close decisions (even some plays marked as errors close to the blunder level) and I believe that if you're going to do any rollouts in a match, you should roll out all close plays and all errors and you will see that many can swing either way.
