In Response To: Explain this rollout result (bob koca)

I probably would've played 13/9 24/22(2) OTB. That said, looking at things deeper, I have a notion of what might be going on.

My hypothesis is less based on straight forward logic than it is based on deductive reasoning, such as it is.

First, what does white want to do here, noting that white doesn't have access to the cube?

Cover all quadrants as much as possible is way up on the list. So is avoiding unneccessary blots. So is giving blue good 6's or 4's. With that in mind:

White ought to want to split his back checkers instead of moving them both forward which would've given blue safe 4's. One 2 down, three to go.

Next on the playlist? Hmmmmm. White wants to keep the midpoint, something I didn't list because it ought to be a given. 13/9 8/6 leaves an unneccessary blot on the 8pt.

Therefore white is now basically limited to playing the ugly 13/11 8/6(2), or the prettier 8/6 8/4.

The latter leaves only one hit in the outfield, while the former leaves only one hit in white's board. Gulp...scrolling up I see that the "other" weird play of 8/6 8/4 also rates highly.

Anyway, as I said, my analysis is about deductive reasoning based on what I think white's goals ought to be, repeating my note that I would've played 24/22(2) 13/9 OTB, and that I definitely would have missed both 24/22 13/11 8/6(2) and 24/22 8/6 8/4.

If white could play either three 2's or four 2's, I suspect that 24/22 13/9 would rank as best. Of course I could be wrong, my gnu repeatedly slams me when I give up free pips like that.
