Nevertheless, this still brings up another point in favor of splitting the back checkers instead of advancing both, namely that white gets both a direct shot and an indirect shot.
I think this is one of the big points in favor of 8/6(2), notably, the swing on Blue's 13 from the bar. After anchoring, White has only 4 shots at the outfield blot and 1 hit inside. After splitting and playing 8/6(2), he has 7 shots in the outfield and 16 hits inside.
But the anchor does serve a useful purpose here. Blue's main game plan, 999 times out of 1000, is to counterprime. The anchor doesn't do much to hinder a Blue attack because there's no attack anyway, but it does help White avoid getting counterprimed. Of course it still may be more of a liability than an asset since White needs to evacuate from it right away.
