In Response To: more computer help (David Rockwell)

'Extreme' doesn't by itself tell you how many cores are present. There are currently dual core and quad core processors called 'extreme', and there might even be single cores (older models).

Fast home computers are built almost exclusively for 'gamers' (role playing and war gamers) who push technology to the limit and often regardless of cost. If their commercial games aren't multithreaded then they only care about the absolute speed of an individual core, not the number of cores.

We rollout nerds do care about number of cores, because GNU-bg (latest versions) is multithreaded, and even the old versions can be run in parallel (multi instances, what I currently do) as often we care about more than just one position.
