In Response To: computer system #1 (Chuck Bower)

Prices are from Newegg.

OS: Vista or whatever: $99

CPU: Core 2 Q9550: $325
I wrote that the Q6600 will overclock to nearly 3Ghz, but if you get a good board and RAM, it will probably overclock a fair amount beyond that as well (3.2ish). A Q9550 will probably get up to around ~4Ghz, maybe slightly more than 4Ghz. The Q9550 looks like the best price point to me right now. A QX would be nice but it's definitely not worth the cost.

Mobo: ASUS Rampage X48: $288
If you are going to overspend, the mobo is a good place to do so. You could probably knock $100-$200 off the price here but this will keep up with any attempts to O/C.

RAM: Corsair Dominator 4GB 1066 Mhz: $110
Again this is slightly pricier than most RAM which would normally run you $60-$80 but will definitely keep up with O/Cing, whether or not you can get the fan mounted.

Video Card: BFG GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB RAM: $120
No onboard video with the Rampage. GeForce 8800 GT is a solid performer, good for most games, so you shouldn't have any concerns.

Hard drive: Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB: $70
This may be overkill, but storage is cheap.

Heatsink: Xigmatek HDT-S1283: $37
The Sunbeam Core Contact does slightly better than the Xigmatek according to Frostytech. They look like virtually the same cooler, pick em in my eyes. TCTC, but I'll go with Xigmatek because it's already worked well for me.

Optical: Samsung 22X DVD+/-RW: $25
Don't really care much about optical drives, but this is 22X and costs $25, so why not?

Case: Antec P180: $80
This case is pretty good and standard. There's a special at Newegg for $90 off a P182 with an Antec PSU, but it ends today. If you want to go way over the top you could get a Cosmos S for $250.

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W: $55 Don't think this will be a problem. 450W should be more than sufficient and it has 33A on the 12V rail.

Monitor/Input devices/Etc.: personal preference.

Total cost: $1219, not including shipping, speakers, monitor, etc.
