Some of these prices are not listed on Newegg because they're not really consumer-level hardware. They are extremely negotiable, but we'll go with the suggested prices that I can find through Google.

Preview specs: 12-core X7460 @2.6Ghz, 16GB of RAM, 27TB of storage.

OS: Linux: $0

CPU: 2X Six-Core Xeon X7460 @2.6Ghz: $5,500
Yes, that's right, can you say 12 cores?

Mobo: Tyan Thunder i7522 (S5362): $400 This looks like the best thing around that can handle the dual Xeon config.

Video: onboard
Didn't buy this to play games.

RAM: Kingston 16GB (8 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR2 400: $750
The RAM selection here is relatively weak as the mobo only goes up to 16GB, which means I probably won't be able to convince anyone to buy this for virtualization purposes.

Chassis: iStarUSA V3M16-SA/550 Zinc-Plated with Bright Chromate 3U Rackmount Storage Server Chassis 550W: $870
Because why not? I probably could've found a rack-mounted case for $80 or so, but I didn't.

Hard drive: 18X Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB: $3,420
For, um, storing Google Maps.

The rest: as usual.

Total cost: $11,000

You could probably knock a fair amount off the cost of this if you intended to use it as a rollout machine. It'd only cost around $6,000 for the 12-core setup. But you could also buy three of the Q6600 builds for $700 apiece that would rival this thing in rollouts and save yourself $9,000.
