Does number of innings pitched matter? In All Star games I think the practice is to pitch only two innings. In a regular game the (good) starters pitch about six (unless they're getting hammered). I guess that can go both ways if starters don't hit their peak until after facing few to several batters vs. fatigue.

BTW, I suspect this topic (hitters or pitchers) has been researched pretty deeply. I have a couple books at home I could look through.
