OK: I've tried to stay out of this, but such a mis-interpretation of statistics by a world class BG player, who's knowledge of math and odds should cause embarrassment in these statements (too much Bill-O and Rush?), makes me conclude that you have no credibility when it comes to economics:
A) The top 1 percent received 21.8 percent of all reported income in 2005. Given that top 1% paid 39.38% of taxes in 2005, this means that their tax rate was twice the average. Gee... I really bleed for them. Poor, poor rich folks. Must be really suffering.
B) The fact that the bottom 50% only paid 3% of the taxes does not mean that, out of 100 payers, all the taxes for the bottom 50 were paid by 6 out 100 filers. Give me a break -- do you even believe what you're stating while you write it? A world class BG player makes this kind of conclusion? Ever doubt anything that comes out of the mouths of the pundits?
C) Finally, even though there are many taxpayers who pay no or a negative federal income tax (earned tax credit -- first proposed by Milton Friedman, who you should read more carefully), they all pay pension and medicare taxes (7% total), plus sales taxes. And, as they file returns, they all have jobs. Yep -- must be slackers all.
Bill: you've really got to start looking at these statements with some critical thinking. Treat it like a BG match, at which you are so good. Think -- don't just move the checkers.
