as you say, you have never won or lost a match on time -- neither have I; but some players will take 4-5 hours for a 7 or 9 point match if you let them; it is terrible for tournament schedules and just takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the game for many

Definitely agree with you... for the majority of players, the time limits are meaningless, so the time only affects the snails.

Actually, truth be known, I might play slightly SLOWER with a clock. Without a clock, it's always in the back of my mind, "Dude, let's keep it moving." But with a clock, the thought process is, "OK, I've still got 10 minutes of reserve time... let's take a moment to think a bit more."
