More swiss tournaments, best in three shorter matches and clocks

Before two or three years, when I started to participate on GoL I suggested change in BG rules (something like Cancelgammon) which will increase (in my opinion, then) skill part and reduce luck part in BG. Now I guess such ideas are something which every serious (but newbie) BG student find 'very clever'.
Well, reaction of players here (Neil's and others) and their arguments convinced me that I stop think about changing rules and spend more time for my game. To be honest, I think there is no chance to add any new rule to game. Expert players learned METs and other odds and his opinion is more influential. I even think that best players don't want to make any changes to standard rules. Why they will change rules when they are so successful in existing?
Off course we all like to involve more skill into BG but I think not in game itself. We need more tournaments which is not easy to win without respectable skill. So only rules changes (if it rules at all) which I find will be acceptable in future are more swiss bases tournaments and not only one long match to decide winner but best in three shorter matches (maybe 7 pointers). Such more skill based tournaments formats are definitely not possible to implement without clock's.
