Is 3-ply GNU-bg's best backgame player?

Just to clarify. We have two questions here:

1) Which is better in backgames: 3ply_checker/2ply_cube or 2ply/2ply?

2) Which is better in general: 3/2 or 2/2?

I think Matt gaves us answer on 2) with his rollout, so there is no doubt than 3/2 is better in general.

I am interested in answer on 1) question.

4ply is nice but too much time consuming. Much better is to spend time on rollouts.
