What ZEUS has taught me is that there are VERY FEW "general rules". As mentioned here previously, what the NFL uses are charts developed BoE in the early 70's which assume that the opponent won't score again (among other assumptions).

I'll put this situation in ZEUS at lunchtime and let you know exactly what it says for this particular instance.

BTW, the other thing I've learned from ZEUS is that as soon as you think you really know what play is right without consulting it, you're setting yourself up to get burned. :) The NFL doesn't realize this, but then we all know they are about as dense of a bunch as there is anywhere (among primates, anyway).
