If you MISS HERE, and they get 7, it DOESN'T MATTER what happens if it plays out with one more touchdown. Coaches have come to realize that it's goofy to make that decision with, say, 19 minutes to go. You gamble when you know you have to. Which is why the Childress decision has become the consensus with substantial time left.

As to the Lions identity: don't gamble at all against teams you should be able to push out of the way. Gamble against strong teams.

The BG analogy of 2away-4away doesn't remotely apply. This is 14away-15away.

Umbrella issue: if you have two point plays you believe in, you should very obviously be stingy with them. Running those plays casually kills their value.
