I wish I knew why....

Two decades ago, I was reading an old BG mag from the early 80's. A famous player of the time was interviewed and he when asked about the decline of the BG boom, stated that slow play has driven more players from the game than anything else.
We need to all realize that ABT weekend events are very rushed affairs and that time concerns need to be addressed quickly or multiple issues arise including conflicts with side events. Making clocks mandatory would speed things up to such an extent that I think we could play 13's in the main and 11's in the conso and likely finish quicker than we now do, but I'd just stick with 11's and 9's for now to be sure.
Making it clock optional in 2009 (either player can insist upon a clock) would over the course of next year would result in most players using a clock a few times and many more buying one. Then Championship can be all clocked in 2010.
Time to get a clue and clock any and all matches that look like delay possibilities. Players need to take some responsibility and approach the staff..lets say that there are 52 in Baltimore this weekend. I don't get a round 1 bye..and my first round match takes 2 hours...and my 2nd round opponent is a known slow player...honestly I will ask the director to clock it..I don't want a 3 hour marathon to delay my side of the bracket two hours..etc etc etc. Seriously if I don't get a bye and my first round match takes 2 hours, my 2nd round match sb at the head of the lets clock list anyhow.
